Cheney July Overview
Hi folks! Summer is in full swing as we kick off July this week. I hope everyone has a happy and safe celebration of our Independence Day and America's 250th! Reminder that fireworks are not allowed within the city limits but you can go see official displays at Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights and at Riverfront Park in Spokane.
Lots going on throughout the city this month. Here's a quick overview of meetings and community events. Reminder that you can also get an overview in the city's official newsletter, Cheney Connections, which is sent out with your paper utility bill and can be found on the city website. For public city meetings, I recommend cross-checking the Agenda Center and/or the City Calendar for the latest updates, since last-minute changes do happen. Sometimes information or packet materials appear in one spot but not the other, so it's worth checking both.

A couple preliminary notes:
- No Cheney Members Association community meeting this month. They always take July off from meeting but should have a summer social posted soon!
- No Park Board meeting this month. At their June meeting, they decided to move to every other month for meeting.
- Cheney Farmer's Market only happens once this month to avoid conflicting with the Cheney Rodeo Parade.

The Civil Service Commission oversees hiring, firing, and promotions within our Police and Fire Departments to ensure equity and fairness. Earlier this year, Council passed an ordinance expanding the Commission from 3 to 5 members. The two new seats are still vacant, and we're actively working to fill them. If you're interested in serving, please reach out!
No agenda is posted yet for this month's meeting, so check the Agenda Center as this date gets closer for more details.

Cheney Monday Night Dinners is a newer community group dedicated to creating space for neighbors to share a meal together. Once a month, on the second or third Monday, they host a potluck open to everyone. June through September, they're taking advantage of the weather and hosting in local parks. Open to all!

The Cheney Farmers Market normally runs every second and fourth Saturday from May through October at Veterans Memorial Park. This month it is just on the fourth Saturday because of the Cheney Rodeo.
