January Cheney Public Meetings
Happy New Year, everyone! I wanted to share a quick update on some of the upcoming public City meetings this month. January is an especially exciting time, as we welcome two new City Councilmembers (myself included) and a new Mayor.
The list below is a snapshot of what I currently know and expect from our Council and Commissions. For the most up-to-date information on meeting dates, times, locations, and agendas, the City Agenda Center remains the source of truth—so please be sure to check there ahead of time in case of any last-minute changes. Most of these meetings should also be available to watch via Zoom, with links posted on the agenda when available.
January 6 at 6pm | Cheney City Council Special Meeting
City Council Chambers
This will be a training session for our new Council and Mayor. No official business will be conducted. It is still open to the public since all Councilmembers will be participating.

January 8 at 6pm | Historic Preservation Commission
Public Works Building or City Council Chambers
The agenda for this isn't posted yet. This Commission normally meets on the first Thursday of the month, but it was pushed back a week to accommodate the New Years holiday. Check the Agenda Center for latest details on agenda and confirmed location.
January 9 at 9am | Civil Service Commission Special Meeting
City Council Chambers
I believe this is the first meeting of this revamped Commission. It's purpose is overseeing certain topics relating to Police and Fire.

January 12 at 6pm | City Planning Commission
City Council Chambers
The Planning Commission meets on the second Monday of each month. No agenda is posted yet for this month's meeting but a big focus for this whole year will be on the Comprehensive Growth Plan.
January 13 at 5pm | Swearing-In Ceremony
Wren Pierson Building
Join the City in welcoming in the newly elected City Council members and new Mayor at the public swearing-in ceremony. All newly elected folks will be taking their oath of office to serve Cheney in their elected role.
January 13 at 6pm | City Council Regular Meeting
City Council Chambers
This will be the first official regular City Council meeting of the year. City Council regularly meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. No agenda has been posted yet for this meeting. You can expect it to be posted to the Agenda Center the Thursday or so before the meeting.
January 14 at 6pm | Park Board Commission
Wren Pierson Building or Aquatic Center
The Park Board meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 6pm. They normally meet at Wren Pierson but occasionally move the meeting to the conference room at the Aquatic Center. The agenda hasn't posted yet for this meeting so be sure to check the Agenda Center for the confirmed location.
January 27 at 6pm | City Council Regular Meeting
City Council Chambers
Second official regular meeting for the new City Council of the year. As mentioned, Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Agenda should be posted the Thursday or so before the meeting to the Agenda Center.
Most of these meetings include an opportunity for public comment at the beginning of the meeting—be sure to check each agenda for specific details on how that works. Attending in person, joining via Zoom, or watching the recording afterward are all great ways to stay informed about what’s happening in our City and the direction our community is headed.
