February Cheney Public Meetings

Hi folks! I heard positive feedback that last month’s overview of Cheney’s public meetings ( January Cheney Public Meetings ) was helpful, so I’m sharing it again for February. Be sure to mark your calendars and stay plugged in on what’s happening around our city. I’ll also include a few brief notes on upcoming meetings to help explain what they’ll cover and whether one might be of interest to you.

  • Help analyze the tourism impact and fiscal sustainability of lodging tax policies.

February 5 at 5:30pm | Historic Preservation Commission
Utility Building Conference Room

This Commission meets on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30pm. No agenda is posted yet for this month but keep an eye on the City's Agenda Center.

February 9 at 1pm | Civil Service Commission Regular Meeting
Council Chambers at City Hall

This Commission meets on the second Monday of each month at 1pm. This is the second regular meeting of the year for the newly reformed Commission. No agenda yet posted for this meeting yet either so keep an eye on the City's Agenda Center. They are working through aligning on a new set of rules for the Commission to follow. The intention of this Commission is to ensure that civil service employees (e.g. firefighters and police officers) are treated fairly, and that hiring, promotions, discipline, and separations are done based on merit and due process, not politics or favoritism.

February 9 at 6pm | Planning Commission Regular Meeting
Council Chambers at City Hall

This Commission meets on the second Monday of each month at 6pm in Council Chambers. January's Planning Commission was cancelled so this is the first meeting for 2026. This group is pretty focused on the active Comprehensive Growth Plan that Cheney needs to submit to Spokane County in accordance with the Growth Management Act for Washington State.

February 11 at 6pm | Park Board Regular Meeting
Wren Pierson

This Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6pm generally at Wren Pierson but occasionally will meet at the new Aquatic Center conference room. No agenda posted yet for Park Board this month either. Keep an eye on the Agenda Center for it to be posted soon.

February 24 at 6pm | City Council Regular Meeting
Council Chambers at City Hall

City Council holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6pm in the Council Chambers. No agenda posted yet for Council but it should be posted to the Agenda Center the Thursday beforehand.

Many of these meetings also offer a Zoom option if you’re not able to attend in person. That said, Zoom access is currently most reliable when meetings are held in the Council Chambers, and it can be less consistent in other locations for a variety of reasons. I’m hopeful we’ll be able to make Zoom a consistently reliable option no matter where meetings are held in the near future.

Most meetings also include time for public comment or questions. Be sure to check the meeting agenda for details on how to participate and make your voice heard. And if you see me at any of these meetings, please come say hi! Thank you for your continued interest and engagement in our community.
