Cheney Parks Board 6-10-2026

Hey folks!

Wanted to give an update on the latest parks board meeting. There are some exciting Aquatic Center updates worth noting:

June 14th - Dive into Reading day!
Huge shout to all the kids – and parents – that made it through this program!

June 17th - 1st Day of the Season! FREE!
Seems like a great place for kids just getting out for the summer to go :)

June 20th - Official Grand Opening! FREE!
Official kick off for the season is June 20th. Come check it out.

There are some changes coming to the pool this year:

  • Rosa's pizza will be providing pizza as an option for concessions this year. Big shout to them for their partnership on this.
  • There will be evening swimming this year 7-8:30! The lights were sorted out, and that provides us the opportunity to offer evening swimming. Special events will be T, Th, & Fri. Watch the Parks & Rec site for more info to come.
  • Have your kids join the swim team! 7-8 am, M-Th
  • Kids triathlon coming July 18th. A great intro to this type of event for kids.
  • Keep a look out for special events coming this year such as adult swim times. More details to come.
  • On a budget that makes it hard to use the pool? Contact Cheney Outreach to get passes and lessons for families in need! https://www.cityofcheney.org/184/Cheney-Outreach-Center

Last comment on the pool - the pool fundraiser, Sip of Summer, was a big success! Thanks to everyone who attended and donated. Over 40k was raised, that money will be used for lessons, pool programs sponsored by Cheney Outreach, and maintenance for our community pool.

Park Rules
Parks board has an update to the general Parks Rules, which hadn't been updated since the 90s, so we should see that go through city council soon for review. I'll share it when it is official.

Arts Commission
Cheney is looking to add an Arts commission to their list of advisory boards. Current plan is for it to live under the Parks & Rec department and work with the Parks board to bring more art to Cheney and make our town more welcoming and beautiful. It will meet every other month, which will also take the place of Parks board meetings those months. If joining interests you, consider applying for it when it is passed! Reach out to the Parks department for details on applying.

Pickleball Courts
The new pickleball court construction has begun! Right across from the acquatic center, next to the current tennis courts. Fun to see that get underway, the hope is they will be open and playable within 2 months. The tennis courts are also getting some attention, so apologies for any closures while we try and make that better for everyone.

Have a great summer!
